Michigan Book and Craft Events

These are upcoming writing and craft events I know of in and near Michigan. I am not the organizer for any of these events (unless noted). Do not ask me for details. Contact the organizers.

Be advised! Some “events” are scams. Some are well-intentioned but poorly organized. Some legitimate events are impersonated by scammers who will take your money for nothing. These events were all found via legitimate Facebook groups and other sources that I know try to vet their listings. But I’m incapable of vetting all of these myself. Listing here does not constitute my endorsement. Please do your own due diligence.

If you’re an event organizer and would like to be added to these lists, please contact me. Note: If I don’t list your event, it doesn’t mean I hate you! I only have a couple of hours per week to spend on this. If I have to hunt for your location or your event page/contact link, I may just pass. If I have to read a flyer and type stuff, I’ll move on to an easier event. Please send me text I can copy and paste, an easy link, and your city in Michigan. That lets me quickly add your event.

Book Fairs, Meet-and-Greets, Book Signings, and Craft Shows

Note: A lot of geek-related events–science fiction, fantasy, horror, comics, anime, games, historical, and more–can be found at MI Geek Scene. They do a fantastic job of cataloguing those. You may find some of the same events here, but I’m concentrating on craft shows and other events I find on social media.

5/30/2026Village Fine Arts FestivalMilford MIThe Village Fine Arts Festival is a juried fine arts fair presented by the Village Fine Arts Association (VFAA) and the Suzanne Haskew Arts Center (SHAC) and held in the heart of downtown Milford’s newly renovated Central Park. This one-day event celebrates exceptional handmade artwork while showcasing the historic charm, walkability, and cultural vibrancy that define Milford.
Central Park, recently reimagined as a true community gathering space, provides a picturesque and welcoming setting along the Huron River. With its scenic landscape, central downtown location, and proximity to shops, restaurants, and year-round community programming, Central Park has quickly become a cultural highlight of the village and an ideal backdrop for a fine arts-focused event.
The Village Fine Arts Festival is intentionally designed to be artist-centered. The focus of the day is on high-quality, original artwork, meaningful interaction between artists and patrons, and a positive experience for both exhibitors and attendees. Additional activities may complement the event, but the artists and their work remain the centerpiece.

3/19-22/2026Cruddy Weather Writing RetreatDrummond Island MIThis March 19-22, 2026, join us for the Cruddy Weather Writing Retreat, a three-day, three-night writing retreat to tap your inner voice, learn your communication style to overcome writing obstacles, and chart a clear course for your book.
Why spend the time and money to go somewhere to lounge on the beach or hang out at the spa, when the focus is supposed to be on writing?
Instead, join us in a cheerful house on the waters of Lake Huron, and snuggle in to write. Spend three days on Drummond Island with others who want to tap into their writing voice and shape their story.
This is a high-touch, very hands-on writing retreat, yet it is relaxed and peaceful.
You’ll be fed hearty, made-from-scratch hot meals, so you don’t have to remember to thaw the chicken or make dinner reservations.
The tea kettle and coffee pot will always be on. And the hot cocoa, too!
Sign up now, there are only 8 seats available!

3/26-29/2026Low-Pressure Writing RetreatInn at the Rustic Gate – Big Rapids MIThe retreat will take place at our small-group retreat center in Big Rapids, about an hour north of Grand Rapids. The Inn sits on 136 acres of peaceful natural beauty on the edge of the Manistee National Forest.

The retreat is all-inclusive and intentionally small (6–8 participants). The cost is $525 per person and includes 3 nights of lodging in a private room with a private bath, thoughtfully prepared meals, and shared use of the Inn and grounds.

I’ll plan to confirm the retreat once we reach a minimum of six participants. If this sounds like a good fit, you’re welcome to reach out by email at innattherusticgate@gmail.com, and I’m happy to share next steps. If you’d like to see photos or learn more about the Inn itself, our website is available as well.

Writers- join us as we work together to make our imaginary worlds, characters, and plots come to life. Everyone gets stuck occasionally. Sometimes it’s finding the best character tell or flaw, or maybe the science or mechanics of a plot point have you stumped. Whatever it is, bring it to the group and by talking it out we may help you find your way through those sticking points. We are a mix of people with a wide range of ages, careers, and life experiences and have a lot to bring to the discussion table. We welcome others that bring fresh ideas. This is not an editing group and we usually don’t read our work aloud. Instead, this is a big picture group. Topics of discussion include problems with World Development, Plot Structure and Plot Lines, Character Development, and Setting. Our goals are to help each other develop a well thought out and exciting Fantasy or Sci-Fi novel.
Feel free to bring a laptop but make sure the battery is fully charged, plugs are limited. We’ll meet upstairs on the balcony. Look for a little full metal dino skeleton on our table.
