Proof copy for A Fine and Dangerous Season!
“This SEASON evokes every kind of Bradbury Weather – a worthy celebration of storytellers and the storms they summon.”
– James A. Owen, author of The Chronicles of the Imaginarium Geographica
As the veil between worlds thins on Samhain, ancient Celtic spirits prepare to unleash their malevolent power upon the unsuspecting world. In the heart of Grand Rapids, a group of unlikely heroes—writers, editors, and a comatose mathematician—must unravel a web of illusions and confront their own fears to prevent a catastrophe that could change the course of history.
Best-selling science fiction author Martin L. Shoemaker crafts a masterful tale that blends contemporary fantasy with the rich tapestry of Celtic mythology, in the tradition of Ray Bradbury’s Dandelion Wine. A Fine and Dangerous Season is a story about stories, where the line between fiction and reality blurs, and the power of imagination becomes the ultimate weapon against ancient evil.
Prepare to be enthralled by a narrative that weaves together mystery, magic, and the enduring strength of the human spirit. With nods to speculative fiction icons and a cast of memorable characters, this book will leave you questioning what’s real—and what’s merely an illusion.
The final proof copy arrived today. I can now reveal that the cover blurb is from none other than James A. Owen. Since I couldn’t ask Ray Bradbury, there is no one better I could ask. James is particularly qualified to recommend this book because his Imaginarium Geographica series has a similar motif of fiction and reality overlapping with the world in the balance.
And James believes in daring to be awesome. He believes in challenging yourself to aim for the impossible. That’s what I did in this book. Only with the memory of James’s lessons in my head, I never believed it was impossible. I never doubted, I just did. I trusted that before I was done, all the storylines would tie together into a satisfying and necessary conclusion. (My brother-in-law says I did it and surprised him in the process. With as much as he reads, he’s never surprised, but I surprised him.)
This book will be available in June. Why so long? Ah, there’s a story there, but not one I can tell—yet.
(The book is also pretty. Someday I’ll tell the story of that cover…)
