Improv meets science fiction! Join award-winning author Martin L. Shoemaker as he dictates a short story live — with audience input! He won’t know the story before you do. Can Martin talk himself into a corner? Come and see, and be ready to laugh at his expense.

And when the show is done, Martin will turn the story into an eBook. All attendees will get a free copy.

Now for the details. The Instant Story Show will be a Zoom meeting tomorrow (Monday, March 30) at 7:00 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time. It should run an hour or less, but I booked 90 minutes just in case. You’ll need to download and install the Zoom software, but many of you have already done that for meetings during social isolation.

And more details. This meeting isn’t making me any money. In fact it’s COSTING me money: I had to pay for a Zoom upgrade to be able to host meetings longer than 40 minutes. And even with a paid membership, I’m limited to 100 attendees. If I want more, I’ll have to pay more. I won’t rule that out yet; but for tomorrow, the limit is 100.

And as you may have heard, Zoom is currently the target of spammers and scammers. They hunt Facebook,  searching for Zoom links, and then join the meetings in order to post scam material.

So I won’t be sharing the meeting link publicly. The first 100 people to send me a message, an email, or a text message will receive the link. After that I’ll send the link, just in case people drop out, but I can make no promises. I’ll ask you not to share the link publicly. Let’s all do our part to stop the scammers!

Oh, and I mentioned a chance to win a free book! One attendee, drawn at random, will win a free copy of any one of my books. It can be a print book from me, autographed (if I have that book in stock); or it can be a print book from Amazon (not autographed, but better social distancing); or for the ultimate social distancing, it can be a Kindle book from Amazon.

I hope I’ll see you there. Stay safe and healthy, everyone!

  1. The Instant Story Show was a very unique experience because it is so rare for an artist to show this much of their personal creative process, and I highly recommend it to other aspiring authors. It was absolutely fascinating to see the story come together. Thank you again for sharing it!
